Traditional handcrafting – Tezashi
This bogu is sewn entirely by hand (tezashi).
Not only are the individual components assembled by hand, but the futon itself is also traditionally made by hand.
The seam spacing is 1.5 bu, which corresponds to approximately 4.5 mm. This traditional quilting ensures a balanced combination of flexibility, protection and natural adaptation to the body.
Tezashi armour adapts more and more to its wearer over time, making it particularly comfortable to wear.
What does Tezashi mean?
In Tezashi bogu, every single seam is sewn by hand.
In contrast to machine-sewn armour, this creates a particularly flexible padding structure. The futons remain more flexible, can adapt better to the body and develop an individual shape over time.
This handcrafted production is extremely time-consuming, but it enables a level of quality and comfort that cannot be fully achieved by machine production.
Why 1.5 bu?
The term "bu" describes the traditional seam spacing of kendo armour.
At 1.5 Bu (approx. 4.5 mm), the spacing of the quilted seams is significantly narrower than on many classic armour sets. This creates a particularly even padding structure with an excellent balance between protection, flexibility and mobility.
This quilting is often preferred by experienced kendoka who are looking for armour that moves naturally while offering a high level of protection.
Materials – Japanese top quality
Only high-quality Japanese materials are used for this armour.
The futons are made of 100% Japanese cotton in heavy #10,000 quality, which is traditionally hand-dyed with indigo.
The reinforcements are made of genuine deerskin, also hand-dyed in indigo. This material is particularly durable and has been used in high-quality kendō armour for generations.
Construction & protection
Careful hand stitching ensures a flexible yet stable padding structure.
The men in particular impresses with its high level of protection and excellent fit. Thanks to its precise workmanship, the armour quickly adapts to the wearer's physique and is exceptionally comfortable to wear.
The gunome design of the men and tare combines traditional aesthetics with functional construction.
