SHUGYŌ – Kote from our own workshop: This high-quality pair of kote is crafted by Miklós Trum in our workshop in Germany. Meticulous craftsmanship, carefully selected natural materials and an exceptionally flexible kote gashira make SHUGYŌ a special companion for demanding kendo training.

5 mm indigo-dyed cotton

The kote are crafted from a robust, machine-sewn 5 mm fabric. For the outer material, we use hard-wearing, indigo-dyed cotton of grade #8800. This gives the SHUGYŌ their classic, deep-blue appearance and is designed for regular use in the dōjō.

Natural padding with deer wool

Deer wool is used for the padding. This natural material provides comfortable, adaptable cushioning and combines reliable protection with good flexibility. As a result, the kote do not feel unnecessarily stiff despite their sturdy construction.

Deer leather for direct contact with the shinai

The palms are made from soft deerskin. This supple material allows for direct contact with the shinai and facilitates a sensitive, controlled grip. Less rigid grip – greater feel for tenouchi and technique.

Five compartments for mobility and protection

The most striking feature of the SHUGYŌ is its specially designed kote-gashira with five separate chambers. The individual sections can move flexibly with the hand, whilst maintaining the protective shape of the fist area.

This design significantly improves mobility when gripping and opening the hand. At the same time, it provides even padding in the high-impact strike zone. The result: reliable protection without your hands having to work against the kote during training.

SHUGYŌ is aimed at kendōka who value high-quality materials, a flexible knuckle construction and transparent manufacturing processes. These kote are not mass-produced anonymously, but are crafted here in our workshop – with experience, care and a clear focus on their future role in the dōjō.
